Most of us choose easy, unhealthy options over what our body truly needs to regain focus and make the rest of the workday productive. So what snacks should you surround yourself to keep you healthy and mentally be able to power through the rest of your workday? Below are 5 easy fixes to stop you from reaching for the unhealthy options and instead, keep yourself well-nourished so you can perform your best! Mutton Kheema

1) Almonds/Walnuts/Pecans - Each of these delicious nuts are an easy snack to keep at our desk to reach for when that hunger strikes. Filled with essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B, they provide a great energy boost. They are low on sugar, so you avoid the sugar spike and drop, and instead get an excellent combination of fiber, protein, and fat that will keep you running strong. Scientists also believe that nuts can help your memory function improve, making this snack nutritious and beneficial in the short and long run.

2) Chocolate - This is great news! It means that the candy bar in the vending machine is healthy after all right? Wrong. Sorry to get your hopes up, but chocolate is only healthy in small doses and when consumed in its most natural state. That means, not over-processed then loaded with caramel, extra sugar, or artificial flavorings. But you can still enjoy it. Stock your desk full of the darkest chocolate you can possibly find - the one with the highest amount of cacao (75% cacao is good, 85% cacao is even better). The cacao bean, in its pure form, has been consumed for centuries, going back to the Aztecs. It gives us not only an energy boost but also a memory boost and even a mood boost. Indulge yourself in this delicious healthy food, and you will feel instantly better!

3) Blueberries - Berries, and blueberries in particular, are packed full of anti-oxidants. They give us a multitude of health benefits, including anti-aging and increased memory. More than that though, they are perfect for a quick snack because they rank low on the glycemic index. That means you won't have the infamous sugar spike and drop that go along with eating high sugary foods such as candy bars.

4) Coffee - Just as was the case with chocolate, coffee is very misunderstood. A mid-day blended coffee drink loaded with milk and sugar, does not make for a quality snack. In order to be healthy and effective, coffee must be consumed in its most natural form. That means drinking black coffee and leaving the additives aside. Not only will the caffeine give you a quick boost, but over time, coffee has proven to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's dementia and disease.

5) Eggs - Ok, not the easiest to store in your desk, but if you have a refrigerator at your office, bring a few hard-boiled eggs to snack on at work. Not only will the added punch of protein keep you feeling full, longer, this snack is full of choline. Choline is necessary to producing acetylcholine, and deficiencies of acetylcholine have been linked to Alzheimer's disease. So, to give your body and memory a boost, eggs are a great snack to bring with you to work.
